Tomokazu Komiya
こみやトモカズ
Tomokazu Komiya draws Pokémon deliberately distorted, in a style reminiscent of children’s drawings – perhaps the card game’s most debated illustrator.

Clear filtersAbout Tomokazu Komiya
Komiya was born in 1973 and has drawn mainly for the Pokémon card game, but also for some of the Pokémon Tales picture books. The style is deliberately primitivist: he exaggerates proportions such as the size of the eyes and the length of the face, and uses strong or unusual colours so the Pokémon stand out against the background.
Soft patches of colour make an image feel calm; dark areas and quick brush strokes make it feel powerful. That has made him divisive – some find the cards ugly, others collect them for exactly that reason.
His holo cards include Politoed in Neo Discovery, Delibird in Neo Revelation, Pidgeot in Expedition, and Exeggutor and Victreebel in EX FireRed & LeafGreen.
A loose card has left its packaging and is therefore sold as a used item, however clean it is. Sealed products are sold as new. What does the condition mean?
